Promoting the development of unconventional natural gas, the national standard for near-bit geological steering drilling systems, which LIUHE participated in drafting, has been officially released.

In recent years, China has attached great importance to the development of unconventional natural gas resources, regarding it as a key measure to ensure energy security and promote green and low-carbon transformation. A number of important policies have been introduced one after another: the Ministry of Finance issued the 'Measures for the Administration of Special Funds for Clean Energy Development' in March 2025, which clearly stipulates that incentives and subsidies will be given to the exploitation and utilization of unconventional natural gas such as coalbed methane, shale gas, and tight gas in accordance with the principle of 'more production, more subsidies', with the implementation period covering 2025-2029; the National Energy Administration's 'Guiding Opinions on Energy Work in 2025' proposes to 'strengthen oil and gas exploration and development' to promote a breakthrough in the production increase of unconventional oil and gas; and the '14th Five-Year Plan for the Modern Energy System' clearly requires to 'actively expand the exploration and development of unconventional resources', striving to reach a natural gas output of more than 230 billion cubic meters by 2025. These policies not only provide financial support, but also build a comprehensive guarantee system in terms of technological research, large-scale development, and industrial chain coordination.

Against this backdrop, the release and implementation of the national standard 'GB/T 45134—2025 Petroleum and Natural Gas Drilling and Production Equipment - Near-Bit Geosteering Drilling Systems' is highly timely. This standard systematically regulates key contents such as the product composition, technical indicators, test methods, and inspection rules of near-bit geosteering drilling systems. It provides a unified technical basis and quality assurance for high-precision and high-efficiency drilling operations of unconventional oil and gas resources in China, and is of great significance for improving China's directional drilling technology level, reducing development costs, and ensuring drilling safety.

As one of the important drafting units of this national standard, LIUHE has provided solid technical support and practical experience for the formulation of this standard by virtue of its years of technical accumulation and engineering practice in the field of near-bit measurement and control. The company's independently developed near-bit geological steering drilling system has been successfully applied in multiple coalbed methane and shale gas blocks. It has the advantages of high-precision geological parameter measurement, real-time data transmission, and strong deflecting capability, effectively improving the drilling trajectory control accuracy and reservoir hit rate, and has won high recognition from customers and achieved significant economic benefits.
